Crail Heritage Walk

The Blue Stane

As you turn left on the gravel of Marketgate North to see Crail Church there is a large blue stone not native to Fife.

The local legend is that the devil took spite at the building of the church and threw the stone from the Isle of May.

The scientific explanation is much more boring - the stone is a glacial erratic - carried to Crail by an Ice Age Glacier and deposited when the ice melted over 10,000 years ago.

Turn up the wide avenue towards the Memorial Gates and Crail Church.
