Crail Heritage Walk

Crail Harbour

The picturesque harbour is one of the most frequent images in Scottish calendars and guides.

It has been in use for many centuries.

Today there is still commercial fishing from the harbour for crab and lobster which have a reputation for quality.

The west pier was added in 1826 to a design by Robert Stevenson - grandfather of the author Robert Louis Stevenson.

In rough weather wooden booms could be lowered to close off the harbour mouth. The beams and the derrick used to lower them are still in place but no longer in use.

Look around at the buildings round the harbour edge.
