Crail Heritage Walk

Mural Tombs

Crail Kirkyard is home to a nationally significant collection of Mural Monuments.

The photograph above shows the tomb of William Bruce of Symbister 1550-1630 and his wife Isabella Spens.

The monument has a strange figure in its alcove made up of parts of two separate medieval statues which were put together and placed in the monument in an enthusiatic 19th century attempt at restoration.

The photograph below shows the Lumsden Monument which has recently been refurbished and documented with an information board.

Return to Marketgate and turn left along the road until you reach a woodland garden on your left.
